How a round goes
Each level is a short course. You only steer sideways, and the course keeps coming towards you. Along the way there are paths and options that change your numbers, and the choice of which side to take is most of the game.
The numbers matter because of what waits at the end: a group of monsters you have to shoot through. The more money and firepower you have gathered, the easier that last stretch is.
Between levels you spend what you earned on the weapon. You begin with a basic setup and keep improving it, so each new level starts a little stronger than the one before.

Things we learned early
Look one choice ahead. A good option on the left is less useful if the next good one is on the right and you cannot reach it in time.
Early on, put money into the weapon itself. A stronger weapon makes the end of every later level shorter.
Stay near the middle of the course when you are unsure. It keeps both sides within reach.
If the monsters at the end win, spend what you earned on the weapon before the next attempt.
Who will enjoy it
Players who like quick decisions and watching numbers grow, in levels short enough for a break.
The catches
Shooting is the payoff of every level, which may not suit young children.
The loop repeats: steer, upgrade, repeat. Long sessions can feel samey.
