How these guides get made

An independent editorial site about free browser games. Who runs it, how a guide is written and checked, and the rules we keep.

What we do

orvynhalvrblaze.com explains free browser games that run on Poki.com: what each one is, how the controls work, what to try first and who it suits. We do not host or run games, sell anything or ask anyone to sign up.

The crew

Guides are written and checked by a small editorial team. Two people carry most of it, and both play every game on the line-up before a guide goes out. A guide is signed by the team, because it is read and corrected by both.

Elin Marchetti

Editor

Ten years editing games and consumer tech. Decides what goes in the line-up and what gets rechecked.

Ruben Achterberg

Games writer

Writes the control breakdowns. Finished Retro Bowl on Extreme, still cannot finish Plonky.

How a game is checked

A game has to run in an ordinary browser with nothing to install, and its rules have to be explainable in plain language. We compare every control and fact with the game’s page on Poki, play it ourselves, and only then write the guide.

Read the listing

Genre, developer, devices, controls and dates, as Poki states them.

Play the opening

Several sessions, noting what surprised us and what a newcomer is likely to miss.

Write the guide

The same order every time, so guides can be compared.

Check again

When a game changes on Poki, we replay it and edit the guide.

Nobody pays for a place

We are not affiliated with Poki or with any game developer. Nobody pays for a guide, a place in the line-up or a kinder sentence, and our links to Poki carry no affiliate or tracking codes.

Fixing mistakes

Each guide shows when it was published and last checked. When a game changes, we play it again and update the text; the date moves only when the text does. If you spot a mistake, write to us and we will correct it.
